Voice of the Community: Senior Editor for Windows Secret Newsletter and Thailand MVP help identify Fix it for ‘Win7 network stuck in ‘Public’ Mode’

Fred Langa (who’s a Senior Editor for Windows Secrets Newsletter) approached Thailand MVP Woody Leonhard to check to see if Microsoft is interested in publishing a Fixit for a common Windows 7 networking problem – when Windows 7 gets stuck in “Public Network” mode for all new networks. Fred has wrote in his Windows Secret column in May, highlighting this issue and detailing the Fix it steps.

Win7 network stuck in ‘Public’ mode

By Fred LangaWhen Win7′s network-location setting fails, you may need to sneak in the back way.A mangled location setting can make a PC think that safe home or work networks are unsafe Public networks — and prevent you from correcting the problem!

This request was escalated to CPM Lilian Quek who worked with the triage team to help develop and release a KB Fixit for the issue.

The KB Article ‘Windows 7 Network connections are stuck in Public mode was officially released and published in August!

Special thanks goes out to Fred Langa and MVP Woody Leonhard for helping to identify this Fix it for Microsoft!

Cheers,

SEA MVP Team
